Merapi is the most active active volcano in Indonesia, located on the island of Java near the city of Yogyakarta. Height is 2910 meters.

The name translates as mountain of fire. Merapi is the youngest in the group of volcanoes in the south of Java. It is located in a subduction zone where the Australian Plate sinks beneath the Eurasian Plate. It is one of at least 129 active volcanoes in Indonesia, part of a volcano located in the southeastern Pacific Ring of Fire - on a fault line that extends from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia.
