The .blend file provided includes custom shader/material that is set up to generate cool looking procedural landscapes: hills, mountains, lakes.
You just add a plane, subdivide it (depending on the desired amount of details), assign the material and voila.
Please check the screenshots provided – they explain the way to can set everything up.
Basically you need to parameters:
“Z scale” in the mapping node. This parameter randomizes the landscape.
White color measure in the ColorRamp node. It gives you control over the height. This way you can generate hills or build up some mountains.
You can also upload your own textures to customize the scenery.
The file was created and tested in Blender 2.8. Earlier versions might not support it.
