Description
The Obelisk of Axum is a large stele constructed in the 4th century C.E. by the ancient Kingdom of Axum. Today located in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, this stele is a major cultural artifact for that country. The stele was originally built as a grave marker for kings. the 160 tonne monument had stood in place for over a thousand years, until the colonial aspirations of a nation far from Ethiopia arrived at her borders.
