Assumption Cathedral

Assumption Cathedral 3D model

Description

Assumption Cathedral (1215 - 1937). This model is part of 3D model of the city of Yaroslavl of the 19th century (see preview video).

In 1215, on the territory of the Yaroslavl Kremlin, or, as it was also called, the Rubleny city, the Rostov prince Konstantin Vsevolodovich laid a stone church on Yaroslavl in his courtyard in the name of the Virgin of the Assumption. In 1219 it was solemnly consecrated by the Rostov bishop Cyril I. The temple was built of thin red bricks - plinths. Its walls were decorated with white stone inserts with carved ornaments and masks, and the floor was lined with multi-colored majolica tiles resembling a carpet. The doors were covered with gilded brass. In the first half of the XIII century for the Assumption Cathedral the icon Savior was painted, the prayer icon of the Yaroslavl princes Vasily (1238-1249) and Constantine (1249-1257). In 1238 Yaroslavl, like many other Russian cities, was burned down by Batu. The Cathedral of the Dormition survived, but was completely plundered. In 1501, the temple was damaged in a big fire, but by 1516 it was rebuilt. The new Assumption Cathedral was smaller in size and resembled the Annunciation Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin. From the west a small side-chapel on the beds was attached to it. In 1612, in the Assumption Cathedral, Metropolitan Cyril II blessed Prince Dmitry Pozharsky, who stood at the head of the militia.
