Saskatoon is the largest city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The city was founded in 1882 in the central part of modern Saskatchewan at an altitude of about 480 m above sea level by John Lake and got its name in honor of the Saskatoon Berry, one of the types of shadberry, which is widely found in the province.
