Santa Barbara is a city in the central part of the California coast, at the foot of the Santa Ynez mountain range. The Spanish colonial heritage of the city is reflected in its architecture: whitewashed buildings with red tiles remind of the Mediterranean. State Street is home to high-end shops and restaurants where you can sample local wines and food. Not far from here, on a hill, rises the building of the Spanish mission, founded in 1786, where Franciscan friars still live. There is a museum on the mission grounds.
