Marrakesh is one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. It is an economic center located in the west of the country, famous for its mosques, palaces and gardens. The medina, a medieval part of the city built during Berber rule and surrounded by a fortified fortress wall, attracts tourists with labyrinthine streets and colorful souks selling traditional textiles, pottery and jewelry. The symbol of the city is the Moorish minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque from the 12th century, which is visible from many kilometers away.
