Magdeburg is a city in central Germany, on the banks of the Elbe River. At its center stands the Gothic-style cathedral, where Otto I the Great, Holy Roman Emperor, is buried. You can learn about the city's medieval past by visiting exhibitions at the Cultural and Historical Museum dedicated to archeology and local history. The Romanesque-style Monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary houses a contemporary art gallery and a sculpture park.
