Belgrade is the capital of Serbia, a state in southeastern Europe. The most famous landmark of the city is the majestic Belgrade Fortress, located at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. The fortress was of great strategic importance for all the states on whose territory it was located: the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Austrian empires and the Principality of Serbia. Now several museums and a huge park Kalemegdan are open on its territory.
