Kosice is a city in eastern Slovakia near the border with Hungary. It was founded in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the ruins of the 13th-century fortress walls in the Lower Gate archaeological complex. On the main square of the city there are two Gothic-style churches: the huge building of the Cathedral of St. Elizabeth of Hungary and the 14th-century Church of St. Michael the Archangel.
