Ankara is the cosmopolitan capital of Turkey, located in the Central Anatolia region. The city is famous for its Opera House, where opera and ballet companies perform, the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and several national theaters. The grand mausoleum of Anitkabir towers over the city with the grave of Kemal Ataturk, the first president of modern Turkey, who moved the capital to Ankara in 1923.
