In 1934 a copy of Leica II was produced in Kharkiv at the factory of the working people named Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky (later Kharkiv Machine Building Plant FED). The name of the Soviet camera FED is an abbreviation on behalf of Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky.After the Great Patriotic War, technical documentation for the camera was transferred to the Krasnogorsky Mechanical Plant.Since 1948, the production of cameras has begun in Krasnogorsk - an almost exact copy of the first FED. The first Krasnogorsk cameras were called FED with the logotype of the KMZ, until 1949 - FED 1948 Zorky, since 1950 - Zorky.
