I'm giving this model a positive rating over a negative one but it's a mixed bag. The model itself is pretty decent and the approx. $10 was worth it for the time it saved me in having to model it myself, but there are some fairly significant issues with the packaging.
First, there are 3-5 copies of the meshes sitting on top of each other. It took me a few minutes to figure this out after my first render came out distorted. Also, as I recall, the multiple copies of the headset aren't grouped, so you just have a bunch of individual pieces of the headset sitting on top of each other and you have to identify and delete all the extra parts.
Second, I needed to apply a Turbosmooth modifier on most of the parts with 2 iterations at render in order for it look smooth enough to use.
Third, if you're using 3DS Max you'll likely need to rename the "uploads_files_730136_OculusRiftmax.mtl" file to "OculusRiftmax.mtl" for Max to recognize it and apply the materials to the model.
All that said, once you account for those issues the model is quite decent and for $10 it was certainly worth my time to make the above fixes than to take the time to model and texture the whole thing myself. If the Author were to account for and correct these issues then I would be quicker to recommend the model.
