In order for the Smart Rig to work properly, the Rig_Tools.zip & Proxy_Picker.py files from this download need to be installed as add-ons To do so, go into Blender, click Edit > Preferences in the top bar menu, Add-ons > Install... Then select the rig_tools.zip file and click Install Add-on. Repeat with the proxy_picker.py file Then check the box next to the addon in the list to enable it & be sure to save preferences

She can render in Cycles as well. The file just defaults in Eevee when loaded for the first time
