More often than not less is more, and that is certainly the case with Black Canary's modern black outfit. Gail Simone’s Birds of Prey run in the early '00s, with a costume design made by artist Ed Benes, features a few select changes to the look of Black Canary. Taking cues from her classic Golden Age era costume, Black Canary was given a more practical leather one-piece. A notable difference from other designs that warrants attention is the all black leotard she dons. An all black zip up top, fishnets, black jacket instead of a blazer, and black combat boots, a practical improvement over the high heel buccaneer boots. For her bottom-half, the crimefighter wears her fishnet-stockings. It's become the defacto costume for the character, from which all others seem to draw from. While some may prefer the lighter blue from her golden age days, the all black look gives the costume a modern sleekness that the older version just didn't provide. Regardless of who draws her, this costume will always look fantastic on the page.
