Description

Statue of Egyptian roy high priest of Amun Roy, a well-known high-priest of Amun-Ra in Thebes, squats with his arms crossed on his knees. His long pleated robe was fashionable in the Ramesside period. The text on the back-pillar states that the statue was placed in the temple of Mut, the wife of Amun-Ra. Roy presents a large sistrum, a ritual rattle. This was linked to the cult of Hathor, whose cow-eared face is displayed. The sistrum was alos played for certain goddesses who assumed Hathoric aspects. 19th Dynasty, reign of Ramesses II to reign of Sety II, circa 1220-1200 BCE. From the temple of Mut at Thebes, Karnak, Egypt. The British Museum, London
