New Balance 2002R Protection Pack in the Phantom Black Colourway.
Pushing the quality of materials and resolution of the mesh, this shoe hits a level of realism that does justice to the original design by New Balance. The suede and fabric mesh surfaces were the main focus, built on top of a sharp sole that blends hard plastic and soft foam. Details of the shoe remain physical, from the hairy suede to the stitching of logos, This approach allows for a greater depth in renders and helps to bring these details to life.
Technical DetailsWith most details being physical, the polycount of the mesh is very high, 4.2 million vertices. The suede and mesh fabric account for most of these polys (~65%). The shoe is comprised of eight 4k texture sets which use Base Color, Metallic, Roughness, Normal, and Opacity. These texures are set up using a UDIM workflow, contact me if you need them sepearated (or for any questions you may have) (The polygon and vertice count listed here use a level 1 subdivision on the main mesh, and is the same as the wireframe renders)
For the Optimised Version I took a novel approach, I created a 3d scan from high res renders of the mesh. Thjis captured all of the detail of the suede which would have been difficult to achieve otherwise at this polycount (~xxxxx per shoe)
