Buick Motor originated in the United States in 1903.The division's founder, David Dunbar Buick, has been in the business of gasoline engines since 1899. Together with their engineer, Walter L. Marr, they built the first Buick between 1899 and 1900. However, the founding date of Buick is traditionally considered to be 1903. It was in this year that the company was incorporated and moved from Detroit to Flint.The division's history has been exciting from the start. Buick bounced back from near bankruptcy in 1904 and outnumbered Ford and Cadillac combined to become the No. 1 automobile manufacturer in 1908.Buick was the financial first whale on which General Motors was created.
