Originally a sculpture created by sculptor and artist J. Zikaras, since it’s unveiling in 1928 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Lithuanian indepence this statue has become a symbol of freedom and providence, as it survived both German and Soviet occupation despite disregard for art during the war and its cultural message during the Soviet times.
