Perhaps it is that I am not doing the hot foil technique. I bought this model ( which looked fabulous ) to carve into wood. It took forever to import the STL file....literally. I sized it to make a reasonable picture. 30"W x 26" H x .5"T. Normally I can get a huge amount of detail at this depth using a .125" ball mill with a 15% step over. Here is my problem, the main carved area is only .2" deep, and overall most details are only .0625" D. I assume this is due to the technique it is intended for. I am going to try increasing the depth of the model in just the main area, and re-machining with a .0625" ball mill. I guess for making an embossing plate, one needs to go even finer of a cutter.....03125" perhaps. The model itself renders great on the computer, but in reality the depths are almost non existent.
