Japanese stone lanterns called 'Tourou' are found in shrine complexes, gardens, cemeteries and temples. The different levels represent the five elements of the Buddhist cosmology. Often made out of stone and sometimes of wood or metal. This lantern is one of a larger set with different roofs, midsections and collumns. Have Fun!
