The Temple of Heaven is a temple in Beijing. Emperors of the Ming and Quing dynasties would pray there each year for a good harvest. The temple complex is situated in a large park to the south of the city, in the district of Xuanwu. In the northern section the walls have a circular outline; in the southern section the walls are built in a rectangular shape. From above the wall resembles a dome extended lengthways. This form represents the Chinese perception that heaven is circular and the earth is angular. The wall runs in double formation around the entire complex, creating an inner and an outer section. The inner section is also divided by a wall into a northern and a southern section.
