This type of compass was commonly installed in biplane fighters, airships, and other WWI-era aircraft but could also go in a boat or dress up a steampunk or dieselpunk scene. By arranging the magnets on the rod it was possible to compensate for errors caused by metal masses in the plane. The model does not depict any one particular historic compass, but is inspired by some of the leading German brands of the day,
The model is on a simple armature rig that makes it easy to rotate the gimbals and animate the compass card and route pointer.
Material nodes for both Cycles and Blender Internal are provided, so it will render in either (Cycles recommended).
A small brass wood screw for mounting is also included.
