Rocket Lab's next-generation Neutron launch vehicle. Neutron expands RL's services into the medium-lift performance class, while reducing costs through a rapidly reusable propulsively-landing first stage. Like its predecessor Electron, Neutron's tanks and structures are of an all-composite construction.
The fairing is integrated directly into the booster, simultaneously allowing easy reuse of that structure as well and allowing mass reduction on the second stage by encapsulating and structurally supporting it during booster-stage flight. Fixed-position legs serve as a combination of structural rigidity, covers for the external raceways through which electrical and data connections are routed, and as aerodynamic features to increase drag on reentry. Seven gas-generator methalox Archimedes engines power the booster, with a single vacuum-optimized Archimedes on the second stage.
