Multi-Purpose Logistics Module

Multi-Purpose Logistics Module 3D model

Description

The Multipurpose Logistics Module (MPLM) was a series of logistics and space station modules built by the Italian Space Agency (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana; ASI) as part of their contribution to the International Space Station program. NASA took ownership of the modules in exchange for allowing Italian use of the station. MPLMs were flown on 12 Space Shuttle missions. In flight, the MPLM would be robotically removed from the Shuttle payload bay and attached directly to the station for unloading using a Common Berthing Mechanism.

Three MPLMs were built: Leonardo, Raffaello, and Donatello. Leonardo was modified for use as a permanent ISS module, the Permanent Multipurpose Module. Several proposed post-ISS stations and transport vehicles would have used either surplus or newly-manufactured MPLMs. Thales Alenia Space, the manufacturer of the modules, still produces MPLM-derived modules and cargo carriers for a variety of customers.

All materials and textures are packed into the .blend file. Unapplied modifier stacks and part instancing are used wherever feasible to reduce file size and enable easy editing
