The F2H Banshee was a carrier based twin-engine jet fighter built by McDonnell aircraft from 1948 and in service until 1961. The Banshee was a development of an earlier fighter the FH-1 Phantom. The Banshee used much larger and more powerful engines. F2H-4 were redesigned F2H-3 after the 1962 unified designations system. Production ended in 1953. Changes were made in the tail and stabilizers in the H4. In addition some electrical and aerodynamic changes were made in this final version of the Banshee. A Hughes AN/APG-37 radar was added to the cockpit.
