The McDonnell Douglas KC-10 is an advanced long-range tri-jet aerial tanker aircraft capable of refueling a wide range of aircraft for the US Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps. It is operated by the US Air Force, US Air Force Reserves, Air National Guard units and Netherlands Air Force.
The aircraft was developed from modification of DC-10-30 in response to the Advanced Cargo tanker Program to supplement the KC-135 and C-135. These aircraft play a key role in the overseas operation and movement of aircraft, supplies and personnel. They were key in the 1986 bombing of Libya, 1990-91 Gulf War, NATO operations over Yugoslavia, the War in Afghanistan and Iraq War. These aircraft are expected to serve until 2043.
