DESCRIPTION

American single-seat long-range fighter aircraft of the Second World War.From the beginning of 1944, the Mustangs began to be used as reconnaissance aircraft and cover fighters for long-range bombers that attacked German territory. The ability to install additional fuel tanks and improved high-altitude characteristics made them the best escort fighters of that time. Using fuel from external tanks, the Mustang could escort bombers taking off from bases in East Anglia to attack Berlin and other German cities.
