The V-22 is a tilt-rotor transport aircraft developed by Boeing and Bell.
At the request of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps, they began developing it, feeling limited to the slow speed of transport helicopters and the limitations of landing of transport planes. In particular, the U.S. Navy's troubles over transport aircraft also played a role. Fixed-wing carrier transport aircraft that can be operated on aircraft carriers already had C-2 greyhounds, but C-2 was an ordinary fixed-wing aircraft, so vertical takeoff and landing or hovering were limited, and of course not possible on landing ships smaller than aircraft carriers.
