The advanced Tristar was a further development of the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar. It had more powerful engines, advanced navigation systems, zero landing systems, meaning the airplane autopilot could land itself with zero visibility. It carried 380 passengers, had a good safety record and was popular with crews. However, the Lockheed L-1011 used Rolls Royce Engines and maintenance problems plagued the engines creating delays.
