The Dash 8 was developed from the Dash 7 series airliner with it’s short takeoff and landing performance
The Dash 8 is a twin-engine turbo-prop powered airliner for regional short to medium haul routes seating a maximum of 39 in the 100 series. The Dash 8 series focused on cruise and economy performance. The result is a popular airplane for small to medium sized carriers and airlines. Over 1000 have been ordered and Bombardier expects sales to top out near 1200 by 2016. Production on the 100 series ceased in 2005. The 200, 300 and 400 are still in production. There is consideration of a further 500 or 600 stretched version of the 400 for development in the near future. De Havilland sold the Dash 8 series production and licensing to Bombardier.
