MD-87 was a shorter fuselage variant of the MD-80s class jet commercial airliners. It was designed to carry 139 passengers. The aircraft had two auxiliary tanks giving it a range of 2900 nmi. These aircraft were number designated for the year they were to enter service and did in fact enter service in Nov 1987. They were in production from 1987 until 1992. The MD-87 was the last variant to be fitted with analog instruments in the cockpit.
