Well well well... The Universe is a safe place again. The war is over. No, we are not talking about Star Wars. It was long time ago and CG in it was not actually CG. Did you know, that they used small models of spaceships to make the first film of Star Wars in 1977? Yes, they did. However, a lot have changed since then.
Back to news! We are talking about 3D Sci-Fi Challenge. It is over. Polyguardians have won. Congrats!
There were 326 models uploaded for 3D Sci-Fi Challenge: 209 for the Polyguardians and 117 for the Enraged Verticians side. It took almost two months for 87 3D designers to build those two space armies. And it is time to know who made the best models and portfolios for this battle. Here they are.
Best 3D Sci-Fi Model
Winner
Swashbuckler Mech by Nick Govacko
The best sci-fi model was made by Nick Govacko. It is amazingly detailed and photorealistic war machine called Swashbuckler Mech. This model stunned us. All of us, who were amongst jury, named this model one of the winners.
The winner gets full version of Mari and Modo by The Foundry, SpaceMouse Pro by 3Dconnexion, Marmoset Toolbag 2 license, 1 video of choice by Eat3D, interview and promotional features on 3D Artist Magazine, 100 USD cheque to spend on Vanishing Point online shop, CGTrader T-shirt.
1st runner-up
Costume by Nuttavut Baiphowongse
Nuttavut Baiphowongse is known for extraordinary photorealistic 3D models. He had shown his skills in our challenge with a model called Costume. This should definitely be a costume for a polyguardian, if there will be a battle for the Universe anytime soon.
The 1st runner-up gets Modo by The Foundry, SpaceMouse Wireless by 3Dconnexion, Marmoset Toolbag 2 license, 1 video of choice by Eat3D, 50 USD cheque to spend on Vanishing Point online shop, CGTrader T-shirt.
2nd runner-up
Victory! by James Suret
Polyguardians had become the winners of this battle, so it is not a surprise that the 2nd runner-up in the best 3D sci-fi model category made a model for polyguardians as well. James Suret could be a prophet in a space battle as he made a model called "Victory!" and his side has won!
The 2nd runner-up gets Modo by The Foundry, SpaceMouse Wireless by 3Dconnexion, Marmoset Toolbag 2 license, 1 video of choice by Eat3D, 50 USD cheque to spend on Vanishing Point online shop, CGTrader T-shirt.
Best 3D Sci-Fi Portfolio
Winner
iterateCGI
15 models for the dark side. That is what iterateCGI made for this challenge. Despite the fact that he chosen the side of the losers, he made truly original and spectacular 3D models. Have you heard about snakebot earlier? Yeah, neither have we. It is a cyborg snake that can be used in a space fight. Now, how cool is that?
The winner gets full version of Mari or Modo by The Foundry, SpaceMouse Pro by 3Dconnexion, Marmoset Toolbag 2 license, 1 video of choice by Eat3D, 100 USD cheque to spend on Vanishing Point online shop, CGTrader T-shirt.
1st runner-up
Lordlight
It took awhile to understand that this is not a 3D printable item. This machine gun looks so photorealistic. And it is not the only model made by Lordlight for this challenge. He made 11 models and they all look so real. Well done.
2nd runner-up
msgamedevelopment
What space battle could take place without spaceships? We have 9 of them here. msgamedevelopment made them for the challenge and they are really ready to be used for games. Simple but good 3D models. That is all you need to create the new Space Invaders.
