Boeing KC-97 Stratotanker USAF 2

Boeing KC-97 Stratotanker USAF 2 3D model

Description

The model is built very near to scale. Engines are modeled. The model is fully textured and comes with animatable control surfaces, landing gear, cowl flaps and propellers. The tanker version KC-97 models include a boom that can be animated for mid air refueling scenes. It is available in several different formats.

The Boeing KC-97 Stratotanker was a United States strategic tanker aircraft based on the Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter The KC-97 was one of the first mid air tanker refueling aircraft in the US Air Force and was used to refuel some of the first combat aircraft with that capability extending their range.
The USAF began operating the KC-97 in 1950. The KC-97 Stratotanker was an aerial refueling tanker variant of the C-97 Stratofreighter (which was itself based on the B-29 Superfortress), greatly modified with all the necessary tanks, plumbing, and flying boom. The cavernous upper deck was capable of accommodating oversize cargo accessed through a very large right-side door. In 1956, SAC began phasing out the KC-97 in favor of the KC-135. KC-97s continued operating with Tactical Air Command, the Air Force Reserve, and the Air National Guard. The KC-97 was finally retired completely in 1978.
